WHAT DO YOU THINK?: Delana Pierce tries on a bridal gown at Fabulous Bridal Boutique while bridal consultant Becca Coppage looks on.

Fabulous Bridal Open in Wedding District

Boutique Owned by Fabulous Furs Proprietor

COVINGTON - Delana Pierce stands before a mirror donned in what some might say are the things that dreams are made of; dream weddings, that is.

Surrounded by an array of tactile and visual pleasures - shimmering satin, wispy chiffon, delicate lace and glittering jewels - Pierce begins to plan her September 2006 wedding to Covington City Commissioner Rob Sanders.

Step one is finding the perfect gown, and Pierce hopes she will find that, as well as many of the other essential accoutrements of her impending nuptials, at Fabulous Bridal Boutique at 601 Madison Ave. in Covington.

"There are few other places where brides can find their own gowns, bridesmaids' gowns, and accessories in one shop, while feeling like they are the only customer in the shop," Pierce said.

One of the earliest businesses to locate in what will come to be known as the city's wedding district; Fabulous Bridal Boutique is the brainchild of Donna and Jim Salyers. It will be part of an entire area devoted to weddings, called the Madison Avenue Wedding Mall.

Salyers doesn't hide her enthusiasm for her husband's plan.

"If we can build the wedding district, it will be wonderful," Salyers said.

Her husband, Jim, has purchased the building next to Covington City Hall on Madison Avenue, and plans to create a one-stop shop that will cater to a variety of wedding needs, from selecting a wedding cake to choosing music for the event.

"A Fairytale Experience"

Fabulous Bridal Boutique is 10,000 square feet of space designed to outfit women in attire for weddings, proms, pageants, and evening events by featuring gowns, jewels, veils and shoes.

"The person who is running the wedding shop is just like me," said Salyers. "She thinks it should be a fairytale experience. When a girl buys a dress it should be something you always remember. It should be an event."

Tricia Schweitzer, general manager of the Fabulous Bridal Boutique, and a self-proclaimed former tomboy, said that as a child she poured through bridal magazines when she wasn't shooting hoops. Now she and her staff intend to pamper the women who come through the doors of Fabulous Bridal Boutique and help make their dream weddings a reality.

"When they come in, they're greeted at the desk, they sign our guest book, and we get them a bottled water or a glass of champagne," Schweitzer said.

Then the real fun begins.

Featuring some of the wedding industry's top designers available in Northern Kentucky - such as Augusta Jones, Peter Langner and Vera Wang - the bride-to-be can begin her search for whatever she needs to complete her wedding.

Grooms Get Pampered

Schweitzer said that can range from dressing the entire wedding party, to completing small details such as selecting a piece of jewelry for the bride, or ties for the groomsmen.

Schweitzer is quick to point out that pampering the men is a priority too.

The patient groom can bide his time in the shop's third floor men's room where he can relax on a comfortable sofa, tune into ESPN on a flat screen and enjoy a beer, while his bride is tended to by the staff at Fabulous Bridal Boutique in selecting her gown.

Store hours for Fabulous Bridal Boutique are Sunday, noon to 4 p.m.; Monday and Friday, noon to 5 p.m.; Wednesday and Thursday, noon to 8 p.m.; and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The shop is closed on Tuesdays.
